This is seriously one of the easiest things you can make that is delicious also: Rooz Ma Lahem
This is literally translated (from Turkish…I believe?) to “rice with meat”. But oh, it is so much more.
A tasty “one pan wonder”, this comprehensive dish combines your protein, starch and vegetables while pleasing your delicate palate. I used the recipe below, found on RecipeZaar (ahem)
Ingredients
- 5 cups cooked rice
- 1 lb ground lamb or ground turkey
- 1/3 cup diced onion
- 3 garlic cloves
- 1 (15 ounce) can chickpeas
- seasoning, to taste
- 1/2-3/4 teaspoon allspice
- 1/3 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon salt (more if desired)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup diced red pepper (not optional)
Directions
-
Set cooked rice aside.
-
In a pot combine onions, chopped garlic, seasonings and ground meat and brown, try to keep the meat from forming large clumps, you want it taco meat in consistency, so keep stirring often.
-
Once its almost brown add drained can of chick peas and let meat brown.
-
When meat is browned drain any remaining fat from pan and add rice and stir until well blended.
-
Enjoy
The recipe says that seasoning measurements are approximate and can be altered to your taste. Two things with which I deviated are: I added more cinnamon AND I added about a third of a cup (I am quite partial) of chopped fresh cilantro at the very end, though before step #5. In my opinion, this cilantro is exactly what the recipe needed to make it 110%.
now you try!
